About Bart Miesfeld

Bart Miesfeld earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from SDSU and his JD from Cal Western School of Law, graduating with highest honors, magna cum laude. He also completed a postgraduate program of instruction at Harvard Law School.

After working as an attorney with a large private firm, Bart joined the Chula Vista City Attorney's office to handle litigation as a Deputy City Attorney. Bart quickly rose through the ranks to Assistant City Attorney, Senior Assistant City Attorney, and was eventually appointed by the City Council as the City Attorney in 2008. Throughout his career in the City Attorney’s Office, Bart worked hard to safeguard taxpayer resources and to improve the quality of life for Chula Vista residents. Bart was responsible for providing legal advice to City Council, boards and commissions, and City departments. He represented the City before all federal, state, judicial, criminal, and administrative agencies.

Outside of his work as City Attorney, Bart has always been passionate about helping students achieve academic and professional success, which led him to become an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Diego School of Law and an invited lecturer at Cal Western School of Law. For almost a decade, Bart taught a trial practice, civil procedure and evidence course. In addition, Bart served as a lecturer at the State Bar of California Annual Conference and as a Faculty Instructor for the San Diego Inn of Court training program.

Bart has also held a number of key leadership positions in the legal profession, including Vice President of the San Diego & Imperial Counties City Attorney Association, a Delegate of the California Bar Association, and the San Diego County Bar Representative to the American Bar Association House of Delegates. Bart was also appointed as a judicial arbitrator by the San Diego Superior Court.

Bart’s wife, Corinne Miesfeld, was a prosecutor in the District Attorney’s office for close to twenty years and continues to work here in Chula Vista. Bart and Corinne have three adult children, Cienna, Vail, and Berkeley.
